Dana Fire & Rescue's 1st Station April 1971

Dana Fire & Rescue is located in Henderson County (North Carolina) and provides Fire & Rescue protection for approx. 6,000 citizens in a 21 square mile area.  

Founded in April 1971 with 33 members, Incorporated in June 1971 as a Non-profit Corporation. Dana Fire & Rescue has undergone many changes in the past 33 years. Dana Fire & Rescue has 38 members, and one full time paid firefighter & several part-time paid firemen who man the station Monday thru Sunday 8am – 5pm.

In addition to providing fire protection to the residents of the Dana fire district, We also provide mutual-aid to the other Henderson County Fire Departments, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Henderson County Rescue Squad.

The officer’s board of Dana Fire & Rescue consists of the following positions: 1 Chief, 2 Assistant Chief’s, 2 Safety Officers, 3 Captains, 3 Lieutenants, and 13 Board of Directors.

Within our membership we have 13 State Certified Level II Firefighters, and 21 Firefighters who are certified in the Emergency Medical Field. All members receive training in numerous types of Rescue and Hazardous Materials situations.

Dana Fire & Rescue has undergone numerous changes since 1971, and continues to plan for the future of the fire department and the community. Some of the many changes that have just recently taken place are :

  • Purchased a Thermal Imaging camera in 2000, to assist firefighters with searching for trapped persons or firefighters during a structure fire.

  • Ordered a new American LaFrance Engine in 2003, We expect delivery in mid 2004. This truck will respond to all structure fires & motor vehicle accidents, and will be equipped to respond to medical emergency's and numerous other type calls for service.

  • Lowered our I.S.O. Insurance rating from a class 9 to a Class 5 in 2002.

This is just an example of a few of the many changes that we have recently gone through.

Dana Fire & Rescue strives hard to preserve the history of the department & the traditions of firefighting while continuing to plan for the future of the department. The members of Dana Fire & Rescue are proud to serve the residents of the Dana Fire district.
